Uptime Monitoring
Cassian Sentinel™ monitors your store around the clock and alerts you the moment something goes wrong.
Cassian Sentinel™ continuously checks that your store is live and responding. Not just "is the page loading" — it also verifies your SSL certificate is valid, your domain registration isn't about to lapse, and your response time is healthy.
What Cassian Sentinel™ Monitors
| Metric | What it measures |
|---|---|
| Store availability | HTTP status check — is your store responding to requests? |
| Response time | How long your store takes to respond, in milliseconds |
| 24h uptime % | What percentage of the last 24 hours your store was fully available |
| SSL certificate | Days remaining until your certificate expires (checked daily) |
| Domain expiry | Days remaining until your domain registration expires (checked daily) |
| Last check time | When Cassian Sentinel™ last verified your store |
Check Frequency by Plan
| Plan | Check frequency |
|---|---|
| Inspector | Not included |
| Analyst | Not included |
| Protector | Every 5 minutes |
| Guardian | Every 5 minutes |
| Prime | Every minute |
| Enterprise | Every minute |
Uptime monitoring requires Protector plan or above. You can upgrade in Settings → Billing. 1-minute checks for Prime and Enterprise are configured per account as they roll out — until 1-minute scheduling is active for your account, checks run on the standard 5-minute cadence.
How to Enable Uptime Monitoring
Go to Sites in the sidebar and select your store.
Click Setup (or the settings icon next to your store name).
Toggle Uptime Monitoring to ON.
Cassian Sentinel™ begins checking your store within a few minutes. The first check result appears on your dashboard shortly after.
Where to See Uptime Data
Sidebar → Uptime shows the full uptime dashboard:
- Current status indicator (Up / Down / Degraded)
- 24-hour uptime percentage
- Average response time
- SSL certificate expiry date
- Domain expiry date
- A table of recent checks with timestamps and response times
The main dashboard also shows a compact Uptime card with current status at a glance. If your store is down, this card turns red immediately.
How Checks Work
Each check is a lightweight HTTP HEAD request to your store's URL. Your store is considered up when it responds with an HTTP status in the 200–399 range — so redirects count as healthy. It's considered down when it responds with a status outside that range, fails to respond within 10 seconds, or redirects somewhere that isn't a public address.
How Alerts Work
Cassian Sentinel™ is designed to avoid false alarms. On the default (normal) sensitivity, here's what happens when your store appears to go down:
- First check detects a failing response or timeout.
- Cassian Sentinel™ waits 30 seconds and checks again.
- If the re-check also fails, the incident opens and you're notified.
- When your store comes back up, you receive a recovery notification.
This confirm-before-alert step filters out brief network blips that would otherwise generate noisy, unhelpful alerts. The number of confirmation re-checks depends on your sensitivity preset: relaxed confirms twice, normal (the default) confirms once, and sensitive alerts on the very first failed check. You can change the preset per site in the Alerts section of Settings — see Alerts & notifications.
Down alerts are treated as critical, so they break through quiet hours. Lower-severity alerts (such as an approaching SSL expiry) are held until your quiet hours end. Acknowledged or snoozed incidents don't re-notify.
SSL Certificate Alerts
Cassian Sentinel™ checks your SSL certificate daily and alerts you before it expires — not after. On the default (normal) sensitivity:
- First alert when 14 days or fewer remain
- Escalates to critical when 7 days or fewer remain
The warning window follows your sensitivity preset: sensitive starts warning at 30 days, normal at 14, relaxed at 7.
An expired SSL certificate causes browser security warnings that block visitors from reaching your store. These alerts are worth acting on immediately.
Domain Expiry Alerts
Cassian Sentinel™ also watches your domain registration:
- First alert when 30 days or fewer remain
- Escalates to critical when 7 days or fewer remain
Domain expiry is checked once daily via the RDAP protocol (the standard used by domain registrars). The 30-day window is fixed — it doesn't change with your sensitivity preset.
Where to Configure Notifications
Go to Settings → Notifications to choose how you receive uptime alerts. Options include:
- Email (all plans)
- Telegram (Protector and above)
- Webhook — delivers to Slack, Discord, or any custom endpoint (Protector and above)
Frequently Asked Questions
What counts as "down"? An HTTP status outside the 200–399 range, a response that takes longer than 10 seconds, or a redirect to a non-public address. Checks are status-based HEAD requests — Cassian Sentinel™ confirms your store is responding, not the contents of the page.
Will I be alerted for very brief outages? On the default sensitivity, no. Cassian Sentinel™ re-checks 30 seconds after a failure and only alerts if the failure is confirmed. Brief network hiccups that resolve on their own won't generate a notification. If you'd rather be told on the very first failed check, switch that site's uptime sensitivity to sensitive in the Alerts section of Settings.
My store uses a password page while I work on it — will that trigger an alert? Usually not. Availability is judged by HTTP status, and a password page that returns a success status counts as up. If your maintenance setup returns an error status, temporarily disable uptime monitoring in Sites → Setup to avoid false alerts.
What if my SSL certificate auto-renews? Will I still get alerts? Cassian Sentinel™ checks the actual expiry date daily. If your certificate renews successfully, the expiry incident resolves and no further warnings are sent.
I'm on Protector or Guardian and I see "Not available" on the uptime card — why? Uptime monitoring must be enabled for each site individually. Go to Sites → Setup → Uptime Monitoring and toggle it on.
I've been on Protector/Guardian for two weeks but the 24h uptime shows "No data." Why? Uptime data collects from the moment monitoring is enabled. If you enabled it recently, the 24-hour window may still be filling in. Check back in a few hours.
Can I see my store's uptime history further back than 24 hours? The dashboard currently shows the last 24 hours and a recent checks table. Longer-term history and uptime trend charts are on the roadmap.
Where do I go if I think monitoring is not working? Check Sidebar → Uptime — the "Last check" timestamp shows exactly when Cassian Sentinel™ last ran. If that timestamp is stale (more than 10 minutes), contact support.
